Appletons Wool is British from sheep to needle – it comes from the Yorkshire wool markets and is also dyed and spun in Yorkshire. The furthest it travels is from Yorkshire to Buckinghamshire before being shipped to our shop in the Forest of Dean. The wools are available in over 420 colours and these colours are identical in crewel (2ply) and tapestry (4ply).
 
The colour fastness of the dyes used on our wool is rated as 5-6 on the ‘grey scale’ with the exception of the fluorescent dyes which are rated at 2-3.
 
Please note that we would always strongly recommend keeping dyed wool out of direct sunlight as, over time, it will always have an effect.
